Q: Is it really soap? A: Yes, it really is soap. But it is not just soap, it is CATFISH BAIT SOAP. There is a big difference between my soap that is actually designed to be used as a catfish bait and a soap that you would buy for washing with, because this is actually designed to be used for catching catfish. Lye soap has been used for years to catch catfish. Back in the day when Proctor and Gamble (P&G), Ivory and Octogan were true lye soaps using soap as a catfish bait was very common. As things changed, P&G, Ivory and all of the others began making changes to their soaps and using more modern ingredients and processes, and none of them are lye soaps any longer. Only a true lye soap will catch catfish. Synthetic detergents and mass processing of soap is great for bath time but it will not put fish in your boat. These modern soaps no longer work as bait for catfish because they are not the same soaps when your elders were using them. Redneck's Catfish Bait Soap is still made the same way it was 65 years ago when the recipe was created, we use the same process, the same ingredients and the same steps to make the bait soap. Modern soaps are also rock hard, which would cause them to curmble if you try to put a hook in them, Redneck's Catfish Bait Soap is designed to be a soap bait for catfish so it has a softer consistancy and texture, which allows the hook to go into the bait without it falling apart. These reasons are why Redneck's Catfish Bait Soap is the only true soap out there for catfish bait soap. Q: How did you discover that catfish will bite soap. A: Well we didn't, but somewhere down the
line someone did and when you have something that works, eventually word
spreads and enough people learn about it. Lots of people have heard stories
from their grandfathers or great grandfathers about using soap as catfish
bait because it was very common during the depression. People were poor,
they needed to put food on the table and the soap worked, so folks everywhere
were using soap as catfish bait. The soap worked and it worked well so people
kept using soap as a catfish bait for many years, until the soap manufacturers
started adding chemicals and changing thier recipes, and then the soap no
longer worked. I am sure nobody really knows how someone figured out exactly
to use soap as a catfish bait but then again, how in the world did someone
come up with a stink bait to catch catfish? Q. Can I just go to the grocery store and buy a bar of soap and fish with it? A: Sure you can, but not if you plan on catching any fish. Like we said before, the soaps that are manufactured and sold and stores today are not the same soaps your elders used. Our soap is catfish bait soap, their soaps are bathing soaps. Our product is meant to catch catfish, not bathe your kids. Q. Can I use your catfish bait soap to bathe with. A: We would not reccomend it. It does smell good, but the soap is intended to be use as catfish bait, not taking a bath. It is natural and very pure and there is nothing in there that would hurt you but the anise is very harsh and might cause a skin rash in some people. Q: How long have you been making the catfish bait soap. A: The soap recipe has been in my family for 65 years. It is a proven catfish bait soap that has been putting fish in our boats for a very long time. I started making the soap for my own use a long time ago and word of mouth had traveled among catfish anglers around my hometown and I constantly had people calling and asking to buy the catfish bait soap from me, se we started selling the bait locally through in our hometown and through a few select stores. In late 2002 we launched our internet site at www.catfishbaitsoap.com because word had traveled about this great catfish bait through much or Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas and we were getting more phone calls and requests for information than we could handle, so we needed a means to get the information out to people. The bottom line is that if you want a proven bait soap, Redneck's Catfish Bait Soap is the only one you need, we have been making this bait for many years, and have a proven track record with catfish anglers all over the country. Catfishermen know that our catfish bait soap catches fish. Q. Why does the bait soap work? A: Lye soap is made out of animal fat and catfish love animal fat. It is also somewhat salty, like a catfishes normal diet, bait fish. All bait fish, animals etc contain levels of salt, and because the catfish bait soap is made from animal fats, it contains salt as well. The animal fat in the catfish bait soap starts to break down when it hits the water and leaves a scent trail in the water, which sends the catfish looking for it. Catfish feed be scent and not sight like other fish, so when the smell hits the water, the catfish come looking for it. Redneck's Catfish Bait soap naturally contains the ingredients needed to attract the catfish and get them to bite, and that's why it works so well. When the fish smell it, then find it, and then they hit it hard. Anise is also another ingredient in the catfish bait soap, and anise has long been known as a fish attractant. The bait soap has a very strong smell, but it DOES NOT STINK but there are also ingredients that are in the bait that you cannot smell that the fish will. Catfish have a very advanced olifactory system, and they can smell things that people cannot. Once we add our secret ingredients to the bait, that seals the deal and the fish are on your hooks. Q. Can you tell me everything that is in the catfish bait soap. A: The soap bait contains animal fat, and anise. The rest of the ingredients and formula are closely guarded secrets that we do not discuss. Q. Do you guaruntee your bait soap? A: Yes, we guaruntee that the bait is good and that it will catch fish. If you put it on the hook where the fish are they will bite it, it is simple as that. Our catfish bait soap is a proven bait and we have the pictures and testimoninals and repeat business to back that up. We sell a lot of soap every day all over the United States and if our bait did not work then we would be out of business. We have a very loyal following and a very strong customer base. There are a lot of catfish baits out there that do not work. Mass producing catfish bait is not something we do. 65 years of catching catfish says enough about Rednecks Catfish Bait Soap as a bait for catfish. Q. Where do you make your catfish bait soap? A: We make every batch of catfish bait soap in a small shop in Saginaw Texas, located just north of Ft Worth Texas. Redneck makes every batch of bait soap himself, one batch at at a time, using the same recipe that was used 65 years ago. He oversees every step of the business himself including making the bait, packaging it and shipping it to customers and stores. He wants to make sure that every batch of catfish bait soap is like it is supposed to be so you will catch fish and be happy. Q. Is the bait soap hard like a bar of soap from the grocers? A: No the bait is soft enough for a hook to go into without crumbling, but it will stay on the hook very well and for a long time. The bait soap does not fall off the hook. That is one of the reasons it works so well and catches catfish. Q. How big is the bar of soap bait? A: The bar weighs right at one pound and will make anywhere from 60-80 pieces of bait depending on what size hook your using. We have some customers that tell us they get 100 pieces of bait from one bar. Q. Does the bait stink? A: NO, it smells very good. It has a strong scent of anise which smells like licorice. Our customers always rave about how good the bait smells. Q. Do I have to mold it into balls or form it on the hook? A: No you simply cut a chunk of it, stick the hook tip into the bait until it barely comes through the other side of the bait and then put it in the water. There is no forming balls or making a mess. It is clean, simple and easy to use , which is another reason fishermen love the catfish bait soap. Q. I have a hard time keeping other baits on my hooks, will your bait stay on the hook? A: Yes, the bait stays on the hook very well. If a fish does not bite it quickly it will stay on the hook a very long time, that is why it works so well for trotlines, juglines, jug fishing, limb lines, throw lines and bank lines and even rod and reel fishing. Bank fishermen love our catfish bait soap because it stays on the hook so well they can cast a long way from the shore without it falling off the hook.
Just read this testimonial which proves that it stays on the hook. I set a 45 hook trotline at Lake Conroe in South Texas. On the original set I didn't have any cut bait I was planning to use so I used Redneck's Catfish Bait Soap . The original intent was to rebait that night with cut shad/perch, my choice wintertime bait, but the wind got up and I was unable to run the lines until the following day. I ran the lines and took off 22 channels and 2 nice blues, and rebaited with cut shad which produced 16 fish. I next baited with live perch and took off 18 fish. On this trip the Rednecks Soap out did my normal winter time bait. not to mention that most of the hooks that didnt have fish on them we had to pull the catfish bait off. \Q. Does the soap bait float? A: Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. That is not something we strive for or worry about because it will not effect the bait catching catfish. It all depends on how much air we whip into the bait when we are making it. If the bait does float, the weight of a hook is enough to keep it down. Q. Does the bait work in rivers? A: Yes, the bait is effective in rivers lakes and reservoirs and ponds. If there are catfish in the water the bait soap will work. Q. Does the bait soap go bad? A: No, store the bait in a cool dry place and it will keep for a very long time. Redneck reccomends storing the catfish bait soap at room temperature. Just make sure the resealable package stays closed when storing it so the bait soap does not dry out. Q. Will the bait catch anything other than catfish? A: No. The bait soap is effective as a catfish bait. It is very rare that any other species of fish will bite the catfish bait soap. That is one of the great things about the catfish bait soap, it is Trash Fish Proof (we consider anything other than a catfish a trash fish). Turtles, gar, carp and other fish usually will not touch the catfish bait soap. I can count on one hand the number of fish I have caught on the bait soap that were not catfish, and still have a few fingers left! I can pretty much guaruntee the only thing you will catch is catfish. Q. Will the soap bait work on rod and reel fishing. A: Yes, we sell the bait as a jugline bait and a trotline bait because it stays on the hook so well, but the soap bait will work on rod and reel fishing also. It works very well for bank fishermen because they can cast it really far, and is also great for drift fishing because it stays on the hook so well. Q: What is a jugline, or jug fishing. A: Jug fishing is a form of setline fishing. Click here for more information in jug fishing and juglines. Q. Will it catch Blue Catfish? A: Yes, the bait soap will catch blue catfish and channel catfish, we have even had some customers catch some 30+ pound flathead catfish with the bait soap on occasion. The proof is in the pictures look here and also look here. Q. What size and type of hook do you reccomend for the soap bait? A: We reccomend a Kahle Hook Eagle Claw Model L142 in a size 3/0 or 4/0 for the bait soap. You can order these in our online store. Q. Will the bait soap work on treble hooks? A: Yes, if you form a ball of bait around the hook. This is not necessary so we reccomend using a kahle hook or some other kind of straight shank hook. Q. What size catfish can I expect to catch? A: Most catfish commonly caught on any catfish bait are between two and ten pounds. The catfish bait soap works well on all sizes of catfish. Performance of the soap bait will depend on the size of fish in the area your fishing in. It is also not uncommon for huge 30+ lb catfish to be caught with it as well, but like most other baits, the majority of fish will be between two and ten pounds. Q.
